Wreck This Journal Summer Camp Overview
Camp Objective
Join us and experience writing on a whole new level!
This addictive writing camp is for those who’ve always wanted to draw outside the lines, but were afraid to. In this camp, students will experience and develop a newfound sense of freedom in both their writing and creativity skills through the use of the popular Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith. Each day, campers will work on different writing challenges by means of breaking down their thoughts imaginatively and “wrecking” their journals. Paint, draw, splatter, tear, stain, and wreck your way into creative writing skills!
Materials
- Wreck This Journal (any edition)
- Folder with brads, or binder with rings, and pockets
- Sheet protectors
- Dividers
- Clothes that can get dirty
- Any extra materials to help wreck their journals; paint, markers, ink, recycled objects, clay, play dough, staples, scissors, stickers, glitter, etc.
Review and Agenda
Campers will review the prior day's agenda, ask questions, and discuss the current day's agenda.
The Great Diary Project
Campers will take time each day to discuss journaling and diaries. We'll go over famous and non-famous journals and diaries, as well as other journals and diaries discovered through the Great Diary Project's archive!
DIY Time
Campers work on different activities, individually, selected from their Wreck It Journal for 30 minutes each day in camp.
Destroy to Create
Not only do we destroy our journals in camp to dive into our creative minds, we also use writing graphic organizers to help create their personal life story in their journals.
Camp Destruction
Campers work together on different class projects daily from our Wreck It Journal. We'll also work on Survival Kit items and activities from Keri Smith's website.
Home Destruction Work
Campers will take home a print out each day and are instructed to wreck it. Campers are to bring their creative destruction to camp the next day to share and discuss.
